In this all-vampire episode, we review Already Dead by Charlie Huston as well as the Vertigo comic book Bite Club. D.W. chimes in with a Castlevania retrospective, while Ian, James and Kellen review Blade, Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge and Hellsing: Impure Souls (respectively).

Seems like this description appears elsewhere in this blog. [/shifty]

We haven't said a word...

As of this writing, Jen and I haven't recorded one second of the all-vampire episode (16), yet the show is already 51:22 long! Thanks to contributions by D.W., Ian, James and Kellen, not only will you hear Jen and I review Already Dead and Bite Club, but also a Castlevania retrospective and reviews of Blade, Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge and Hellsing: Impure Souls (respectively).

Get comfy, kids! This is going to be a long ride.

March schedule

Below is the tentative schedule for the month of March. The dates listed are when we'll record the episodes, so, as always, if you have something to say concerning these topics, make sure to get your thoughts in by then.

March 12: Runaways, vol. 3: The Good Die Young

March 19: V for Vendetta [movie and possibly the comic]

March 26: [undecided]

Boo-ya! Oh wait. Cyborg never actually shouts that in episode 103 of Smallville. What a shame. It might have livened things up a little. Listener DarthSkeptical wrote a rather detailed explanation as to why Clark must be head over heels for Lana (at least for now), and we respond. James presents the third installment of Animazing Segment, and takes a look at R.O.D. - Read or Die. And a new segment debuts: Anticipation by Kellen Scrivens!

Overly complicated deaths? Check. Cartoony gore? Check. Clichéd characters? Check. Great story? Hmm... nope. Good story? No again. Passable story? Nope. Subpar story with glaring plot holes? Check! It's Final Destination 3. And it's This Month in Horror time!

Quickie?

As it stands, the next episode might be a Quickie. Our weekend didn't end up as planned, and so it doesn't look like we'll be able to catch Final Destination 3 before we record the show tomorrow.

Runaways, vol. 3

Man! Not a single Borders in the area carries Runaways: The Good Die Young! Sure, I can order it, but I was hoping to grab it Tuesday or Wednesday so I could read it before the weekend. I mean, there's no real rush to get to it, but sometimes I need to read certain comics ASAP. And this is one of those instances. Which is weird considering I'm not a fan.

Maybe I want to read it to just get this whole ordeal over with.

I don't mean to imply that the comic is terrible; it's just not my taste. But I want to like it. I want to understand why everyone gushes over it. Since I can't wrap my brain around it, I feel... I don't know. I feel disgruntled, actually. That said, I wonder if my dislike for the title is amplified by me not believing the hype.

It's all about Runaways: Teenage Wasteland this time around. Sure, we liked it more than the first volume, but the hype still seems like a lot of hot air. Also, the trivia question for the month of February is asked.

All-vampire episode

Jen and I are planning an all-vampire episode. Currently we're running with reviews of Already Dead by Charlie Huston, "I Am Legend" by Richard Matheson and Bite Club by Howard Chaykin, David Tischman and David Hahn. James has promised a review of Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge, and Cash will chime in as well (as of this writing he hasn't decided what his contribution will be).

If any listeners would like to record a segment — be it a review, commentary or whatever — about vampires in video games, comic books, movies, novels or anime / manga, they can do so by sending an mp3 file to the e-mail addy on the right. All fan segments must be received by 26 February.

A bit of a scare

Roughly 40 minutes into the recording of episode 13, Jen's laptop went into hibernation. This of course freaked me out, because we don't save our progress as we record. No. A save file is made only once we've completed recording.

It took me all of ten very panicked seconds to realize why her machine went into the aforementioned mode — I had unplugged it from the wall Friday night so I could charge my Nintendo DS as I played Mario Kart DS, and Jen, not knowing that it was the then-fully charged battery that was supplying power to her computer, used her laptop for an extended period earlier today — before I hurriedly corrected the problem by plugging the computer back in.

As the curses boiled from my tightly clenched lips, I glared at the computer screen waiting to see if we lost the file. Had we, I have to admit, I wouldn't have rerecorded it. There's no way I would have been in the mood to do so. At least not tonight. Maybe by Monday night my anger would have subsided and we could have finished up / restarted. I don't know.

And luckily I don't have to know, because the unsaved file wasn't lost and we were able to continue from where we (unwillingly) left off. Hopefully any residual frustration doesn't come through on the show.
